"These photos were all taken on a southwest road trip I took this winter. On this trip I feel like I’ve finally started to “get” film, on a technical level. It’s learning the process of how to properly expose film in different situations, and choosing different film stocks for each occasion, that makes it feel like you’re really learning an art, as opposed to just spinning around with a digital camera in your hand and hoping you get lucky. The characteristics of film photos are what drew me to it as a beginner, but being able to learn after many mistakes and regain control of the process is what is the most rewarding. Actually, I think the most rewarding part is licking that little sticky strip at the end of the roll." - Carter

"Every time I go walking in the Lake District, I find myself wondering who lives in these tiny farmhouses? What is their life like, tucked away in the hills, surrounded by sheep and silence? It always feels so peaceful and so idyllic. I wanted to capture a moment of that rural simplicity, the kind that makes you pause and imagine a slower, quieter way of living.
Being able to explore while also taking photos is my favourite part of photography and appreciating the slowness of it all. The sheep grazing quietly and the silence of having nobody around is so important to me that I capture the stillness. I'm drawn to the contrast between the vast, towering mountains and the smallness of the sheep. It's a reminder of how tiny we are in the grand scale of nature and yet how beautiful it is to simply exist within it." - Megan
